Want to know an underrated skin hack?
You guessed it! Sunscreen.
From babies to senior citizens and everyone in between, sunscreen is for all ages and can help protect the skin against the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation from the sun.
A few common misconceptions revolving the topic of sunscreen are:
1. ❌ It’s not needed on cloudy days
✅ Some ultraviolet rays can penetrate past clouds
2. ❌ It’s only needed on the beach and outdoors
✅ Sunscreen is needed for daily routine activities such as driving and walking
3. ❌ It clogs pores and leaves a white cast
✅ Most brands are moving to “non-comedogenic” formulas
Why should you wear sunscreen indoors? Glad you asked.
Well the two types of radiation the sun emits are called UVA and UVB.
Both are similar in source but differ in the way they affect the skin.
For example, UVB rays cannot penetrate through clouds and can only reach the epidermis, the outer layer of the skin. These type of rays are more intense during summer months increasing the chances of sunburn.
On the other hand, UVA rays can reach through clouds, glass windows, and to deeper layers of the skin past the epidermis. These type of rays are always present and can contribute to premature aging, wrinkling, and long-term damage.
⚠️ Broad-Spectrum sunscreens with an SPF of 30 or higher can help protect against both UVA/UBA rays, and reduce the risk of skin cancer
💡Choosing the right sunscreen involves varying factors like skin type, activities, and personal preferences. It’s important to incorporate sunscreen into your daily routine, applying generously, and reapplying every 2 hours.
Remember, SKIN IS IN!
